Diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging and justice (DEIBJ)

To celebrate world poetry day today, I read some poems. Robert Frost’s poem got me thinking about the many roads we may have taken at different points in your lives. In the education sector, school leaders and teachers had to make choices amidst a pandemic and human injustices. All in an endeavour to forge for a better tomorrow and make a difference for students be it by using more inclusive practices that give students a choice and a voice and that aim to reach out to every student, advocating for decolonizing of the curriculum so that students see themselves in the curriculum and give meaning to student learning.
Also not forgetting those educators who decided to be allies and advocate for their grieving and afflicted colleagues.
And kudos to those who raised their voices to call out injustices- all forms discrimination based on race, sexual orientation, language, nationality; microaggressions, exclusion and preferential treatment in the work place etc.
If the choices you made did not make a difference for yourself and others, all is not lost, you can always introspect and assess the road you took and make changes.
Dedicated teachers and people in education, you made a difference for others and for yourselves.
Those who chose to introspect and think of the road earlier taken and how it was not contributing to making a difference to our noble cause, you made a difference for yourselves, for others and for generations to come. You are the best change leaders and managers, because, STILL WE RISE! #mayaangelou
